The Source gets rave reviews online, but a family friend told me the food was overrated, which really quelled my desire to go.  But, as always, curiosity got the best of me and T and I stopped by for dinner before a show at the Warner Theater.  It was early in the evening, and while the dining room was empty, the lounge was starting to fill. We made our way upstairs to our table and couldn’t help but notice have immaculate the restaurant was. You could tell someone gave thought to selecting even the smallest details.

After dining I read several accounts of poor service, but I would have to disagree. The team attending to us was by no means friendly, but more attentive, observant and polite. They made enough conversation to know we had somewhere to be, and to consider that in their service. At the same time, they weren’t overly chatty and knew their role.

But onto the food; it seemed everything T selected was a hit, and I a miss. T declared his sui mai appetizer one of the best “bites” he’d had ever, and the flavors of his Indian influenced prawns were delicious. On the flip side, my duck was not so spectacular. The duck had a spicy sweet Asian flavor to it, and the lo mein noodles were drenched in the same sauce. While I enjoyed the noodles, the duck was extremely fatty, making it difficult to eat. I still felt a little hungry after eating and after reading reviews, it seems that most would agree.

Two things we both enjoyed however, were the delicious green beans that come as an amuse bouche, paired with walnuts and the Warm Valrhona Chocolate Truffle Cake; we just gobbled both up! However, dinner here is pricey, and while it was fun once, for the quality, it’s not worth going back.
